Step 5: Create an Operating Agreement

By default, a single-member LLC is taxed as a sole proprietorship and a multi-member LLC is taxed as a partnership. In both cases, profits "pass through" to the owners' personal tax returns. You report business income on Schedule C (single-member) or receive a K-1 (multi-member) and pay income tax at your personal rate plus self-employment tax of 15.3% on net earnings.
